Etats-Unis-Louisiane-Chris-un homme en jupe

Good Morning.  I am 51 years old, married for 31 years to a wonderful woman.  I work as a naval engineer, and my work has taken me many places in the world.

In 1989 I had the great pleasure of living and working in Paris as a representative of the US Embassy "on loan" to the French Ministry of Defense. This experience cemented my love for French culture, which has continued ever since.

While we consider the Pacific coast of USA to be "home" we don't seem to live there very often.  At the present time we are living in New Orleans - another very French culture!  (Please come visit - we have a lot of French visitors, and the French language is well understood here, compared to the rest of USA.)

  • What kind of skirt do you wear ?

I started, like so many men, with a towel wrapped around me after a shower.  Then, on a lark I donned one of my wife's elastic-waist skirts - to the great laughter of all the family.

In early outings my public skirt wearing was restricted to wearing kilts, because these are the "acceptable" ones.  But I have slowly (it has been ~4 years) gained my courage and now I go out in a wide range of skirts.  On hot summer days I like a light weight and knee-length skirt.  In winter I like to start a cold morning with a floor-length wool skirt that I can wrap around my ankles.

I have strolled the streets of Norway in skirts, I have wandered on the beaches of Madagascar in a sarong.

  • Where do you wear skirts ?

It started as in home only. Then I dared to go out to the collect the mail in a skirt. Then I dared to wear a very conservative skirt to a meeting with friends. Then to a grocery store.  Then a kilt to the office.

Now, about the only place I don't regularly wear a skirt is to my position as a University Professor.  I stay more 'conservative' there for most of the term, to avoid distracting the students.  I DO wear a skirt to school around mid-term, as a way of breaking the boredom - for them and for me.

  • What was your entourage's reaction ?

My profession consists of being an innovator.  I am respected and hired specifically for my ability to conceive unusual solutions to problems.  Therefore most people who know me take the skirt as being completely logical for me.  I have had to work carefully with my wife and children to make sure that I am wearing ensembles that look like "a man who chooses to wear a skirt" instead of "the ugliest crossdresser I've seen"  (I have a mustache).

  • For you, what is the best style to have for a man, in order to make his wearing of a skirt bein accepted ?

There is a 20-something in my neighborhood who wears pink floral skirts and rides a Vespa, and he looks like a man.  It is not the skirt that makes the distinction, it is somehow "the whole."  It lies in how you carry yourself, how you walk, etc.

Now, with that said I do have a practical engineering guide:  One Item.  Try to wear only One Item from the ladies' side of the store.  If you wear a skirt, match it with a pair of men's shoes.  If you wear painted nails and sandals, then I suggest trousers.  Somehow people will take this in and see one item 'out of place' and they accept it as Individualism, or an Experiment, or so forth.  Too many such items and the impression is more likely to assume fetishism.
