Alexandre Reis - jupes pour hommes

Who I am ? I would like to know it ( laugh). Alexandre G. Reis, I was born in january,16th 1957 in Setubal ( portugal) from a mother who was a sewer and a father who was a firefighter.

A quite difficult childhood, separated from my parents because of their divorce, I was placed to my godfather who was the boss of a knitwear company in lisbon ( Knitwear Do-Carmo Guedes company). I spent a part of my childhood to work in it. ( 1963/1968) without going to school.

That's the harsh reality of life, I do not go further because it's still a bit strange deep in my heart.

I arrived in France for Christmas 1968, I had trouble with the language and more with the climate, the first time I saw the snow, I thought it was the end of the world, that the sky was falling in pieces and I went hidding under the bed.

So what to say about studies, very hard.

So, during my 16th summer, I entered a computer school and in september, the work as a lot of people at this time.

I made an application for naturalization and I got it, I am very proud of it.

Why I didn't go to a fashion school, you will ask me, because of a mother who didn't want his son to become a H...as they say, that's life.

I had to wait till I was 18 (1975) to have the freedom of choice.

I had several smalls jobs, staying in the world of fashion, I worked in a Thierry Kam's shop, in the Marbeuf street which made stuff from Pierre Cardin for women and suits for men. And at the Montparnasse Tower's gallery for the same bosses.

I went away from the fashion world for a long time as a result from an attack in Paris , I went away from the capital to go to Montpellier. There, I worked for marvellous people, the Kenzo shop, and T.H.T. They gave me the taste for the artistic and the esthetic and the love of the well done work for customer's pleasure. Last year, I learned that they died, I would like to pay tribute to them and thnk them by thought.

As far as people I like in fashion are concerned.

I am a self-made man who likes to give pleasure to those who wear my creations, dicreet and basically turned to give life to garments, a love story for fashion since my childhood, passion story made of colors and folds.

Divorced, father of a beautiful boy aged 18 who I love. I like art and mostly paintings, pictures, sculpture, I like the astrology, I am fond of celtics traditions and legends attract me, so the kilt doesn't leave me anymore. I like men and women who made the fashion story; here it is a view of their life.

  • Where did you get the idea of skirt for men ?

Long ago the skirt has always been ,for me, an expression, an Art, celt in my soul, I dreamt of it. Today, I can wear it without beingmember of a clan, and that's not an artifice. A lot of men spend time to disguise withe their wives garments( dress, skirt), don't say you don't, I did it as well ( laughes), I have private pictures with one of my wife's dress. Then, marriage and family life made a mess.

To forget fashion, no.

Divorced, I have nothing to loose and time is counted for me. I prepared my first fashion show in 2008 for Moda Domani, at the Palais Brongniart in Paris and I made the first sexy skirt for men , the first of a long serie. So if you watch my fashion show on myspace, you'll see that I removed the skirt from my model in front of people and I left with it why ? Because the question the most asked in the world of men in skirts is what does he wear underneath ? Try and ask that to women, ( laughes).

The skirt is not ridiculous, that's the false cul-tivated from culture who make the ridiculous of fashion,if I take care of not trying to offend, I am not myself. I am a creator, I am not a sheep of comsumption which is dicted by a machist idealist and pervert under the idea that it's not usual, I like and respect all styles and all creators, wether they obey to the fashion dogm or not, and that's not Anna Wintour (1949) who would say the contrary.

The priestess of fashion, the finder of new tendances and new talents who would say the contrary, unless it changes, Vogue could'nt miss a new air in the fashion world..

Like Yves Saint Laurent at his time made a small revolution on podiums : the smoking for women, without talking about Jean Paul Gaultier who, thanks to the skirt for men, has only boost the new way of looking the male dressing code, dogmatic and unchanges for ages, a small step for fashion, a big step for humanity (laugh) bravissimo.( what a pity that change is not always well see and welcomed by public at the moment.)

Now, another touch of Christian Lacroix, colour, volume, lightness and you'll have an idea of my 2009/2010 collection. I like to fight for sure causes, my life gave me a lot of trouble so a bit more or a bit less will only give me the reason to exceed myself, so to you gentlemen who are afraid about being pointed by finger, and the criticism think that people who do nothing by being afraid shocking end to loose their lives and to miss a lot of good things. think that critics do not wait to see you in skirt because even in trousers they like to judge you. think about it, do it for yourself, not for the others and believe me you will be thanked by those who like you. They are the ones who have the last word no ? So live your life, do not be a spectator of your own life.

You won't be more ridiculous than a woman in trousers, think that a man in skirt is as sexy and desirable to those who love us.

The infrigment to freedom in my childhood made me become a fervent defensor of the French quoting : freedom, Equality, fraternity.

So for you a preview of models that you will be the firsts to see drawings, you'll tell me what you think about it.

  •  How do you define the style of your Men's creations and how could you present your models of skirts for men ?

A style off the beaten tracks, more colors into garments and I define it for each seasons. I would like to be able to make a skirt on men's image, neither ridiculous nor vulgar, and which keeps the male side where everyone is well above knees. A bright grey or black with folds, I like to associate silk in folds so there is a lot to do. the saruel, linen skirt, and the model I call the sur bath.

Obviously, I don't forget women in my collections.

It remains a male and sexy style, I like to valorise, when possible, the bottom, yes sirs, women love your small bottoms.

  •  Who buys or is interested by your skirts for men ?

At the moment, I am at the beginning of my career and I am not known yet, even if the Moda Domani competition helped me, I am still on the starting blocks of fashion, and I am in the Tarn and Garonne, a rural area far from big cities, Toulouse and Agen . So, for the moment, I make skirts for myself who wear them as often as I can.

  •  What are the reactions of men and women when they see skirts in your men's fashion show ?

for me, I was pleased to see people reaction at my first fashion show in Paris and the moment when the skirt arrives, comes the reaction " what's that" and then it was an ovation, they liked it and I was very pleased. Of course I do not make only skirts, I decline all a collection for men and women but for next collections, I will make skirts and more.

  • Do you know men who wear skirts regularly or in their everyday life ?

Yes, of course, I know few of them but they are more and more to wear it, believe me.

  •  What would you say to men who do not dare wearing skirts in public ?

So I would simply say nothing more and less than all that I have developed all during the interview, a man becomes a man when he surpasses the anonymous critic who judge out by jealousy. I am not here to give examples, but tell me, man wears strings now so what to say? The one who criticise is ridiculous no ? A man remains a man either he wears a skirt or trousers, seriously, I find sexy a man in a skirt , and in the mouths of the women I heard, they would like to see their beautiful male with this sensual side , it makes them cool, younger and daring, it does not make you a bi, homo or hetero, it does not make you transformist, it is not a disguise, it is an ethics, and a honor for some clans, so try it and you'll be surprised daring advances the man who bends it.

  • A last word about you ?

Today, I go on with fashion competitions to let people know me, and I go to Paris to be more accessible to people who want, so a lot of things to do.

But, that's another story.
