At the beginning there was much talk on forums with other wearers of skirts. It can help to be self- confidence, to dare facing looks and to go out wearing a skirt. To talk, that's good. But, one day, if you want things to progress, you have to act. That's what I've done since summer 2004 through actions based primarily on information. Because, I think we should ...
INFORM TO REDUCE PREJUDGES
August 2004 : creating of HeJ, website.
This website was intended to be a website covering all informations on the wearing of a skirt by men. First, under the domain name hej.isalome.com, then I bought the name i-hej.com. through my self- creation in creating websites, HeJ evolved into a communautarity website with forums, photos gallery of the members of the website who wore skirts, etc. For 3 years, I held the role of webmaster, administrator, animation role, journalist (research and publication of informations), of moderator, I helped people who had problems in this domain, of "commercial" if it can be named like that ( to contact the medias, the fashion area,...).
June 2007 : creating of the association HeJ
Several members had the idea to create an association to give officiality to the meeting of men who wear skirts tha became HeJ ( the website )and give more serious to the actions taken such as to contact medias for example. Yoelo ( financial), Caroline ( secretary) and me ( president of the association) created in june 2007 the association HeJ ( Hommes en jupe) with its headquarters at Caroline and me's house. So I gave , for free, to the association HeJ the website i-hej.com. September 2007 : I left my place to others wearers of skirts and creation of Jupe-Skirt. These 3 last years to be devoted to HeJ during my leisure time ( see my others actions above) and wishing that others wearers of skirts being really involved, Caroline and me willing to make a break we resigned to let our places to Dominique ( new president) and to Eric ( new secretary and vice-president) after a vote in the association. That's when Jupe-Skirt was born, the informations website on all that concerns the wearing of a skirt by men on which I put all informations I collected these years, my articles, my anecdotes,... and that I wanted to go on sharing with people on the Internet.
From 2004 till today : actions to make things progress
I had : CONTACTED MEDIAS The only way to inform is to pass by medias. I sent hundreds of mails / letters to medias ( newspapers, television, informations websites, radios ) for the subject of skirts for men being published. It turns out that it was very difficult to obtain an article. You will find here in the "Press review with our participation" the publications /broadcasting obtained. fortunately, the serious image we wanted to give to our actions by creating the association HeJ was efficient because since its creation that is medias who come to us and not the contrary as before. nevertheless,this sudden interest by medias could be temporary and we can't stop leading actions. TO INFORM ON THE INTERNET Internet, more accessible by people, is an unlimited source of informationswhich can be received so a good way to share our own informations. The information on skirt for men had to be on it.
IN THE FASHION AREA
To inform is not only to help those who don't dare to wear skirts, it's also to engage designers, stylists, fashion traders,...in order they can see a new market in the skirt for men, a proposition of diversity in men's fashion,...and this in the aim that they put skirts into men's department.
TO CONTACT POLITICIANS
This can seems to be crazy but, after all, "who does nothing, has nothing". As it was requested to cancel texts which prevented women to wear trousers except under conditions, it could be requested a text which allows men and women to wear skirts or trousers without being forbidden by the employer.
CONCLUSION : Some actions had no answers. But you must be persistant because, as you can see here, others were answered. Today, someone who read one of the articles or who saw reports on television, maybe he won't look a man wearing a skirt the same way ( I received such testimonies by email.)
Now, this person will think before screening systematical prejudges created by our habits and our lack of informations. It is easierto take answers in our ideas to explain something we are not used to see instead of trying to understand the person or to look for the informations which would bring a real answer. This information, I try to bring it.
And it could have effect on a shop where the manager would have been sensibilized to the subject, read or seen,and who would take the decision to put skirts for men into his men's department.
