Nowadays, some women refuse that their husband wear a skirt in public, even sometimes in private ( either they don't like seeing them like that, either they like but are afraid of what coud be said,...) or criticize men who wear it. But these women would call for gender equality and would shout loudly their right to freedom if their husband would forbid them trousers or if they were critized about this.

Many have forgotten, and the youngers didn't know, the time when women couldn't wear trousers without knowing rejection or banning.

Even if the firsts feminine trousers appeared in Persia in 539 BC,the acquisition of trousers by women was long and difficult.

The trousers appears, in France, during Revolution but it was seen more as a revolutionnary sign than a women possession. Moreover, the Church and with it, the popular opinion, considered women wearing trousers as lesbians or "women of bad life" because it was said that "an honest woman had dirty knees". At this time a decree forbade to anyone to wear a cloth from the opposite sex, so preventing women to wear trousers freely.

On XIX century, in the United-States, women who worked in ranches wore trousers to go riding.

We must wait the beginning of the XXth century to see the democratisation of the wearing of trousers by women. In 1909, the decree imposed during Revolution is cancelled and a circular authorises women to wear trousers only to cycle or ride, and only with a Prefectoral authorization.

In 1920, women can wear trousers to play golf or skiing. That's also an indoor garment.

In the 30's, actresses as Katharine Hepburn and Marlène Dietrich were photographed wearing trousers, which tend to democratise it.

During World War II, women took their husbands' places, went to the front, to work in manufactures and they wore their trousers. After the war, women wore trousers as a leisure garment, for gardening, for the beach or to do the housework, but it was still not accepted to wear it at school, at work, etc.

In the 60's, the feminine trousers starts to be worn at school where it was authorized but with a skirt above and this till 1966 when it was totally authorized.

At the beginning of the 70's, the feminine trousers is well sold and is at the top of the sales.

But we had to wait the 80's for that all women, either from cities or from the country, adopt the trousers and dare wearing it without being afraid of " what may be said".
